New York City street style has taught me that a casual T-Shirt paired with the right pieces can be chic and fashionable too. So for this outfit post we’re playing up a simple tee into something fashion forward. Here at Fashion Frequency we’re not really jeans and a t-shirt type of gals. But we thought to try the look out in our own way.

We love the look of this moto denim skirt and tulle overlay detail. It’s so edgy but also fun to wear. So we paired the look with a comfy black t-shirt and threw on a red belt to match our carry on clutch. And just like that we went from casual to chic. We might not be jeans and a t-shirt type of gals but you couldn’t tell from how well we play dress up.

The influence of 1950s Americana is undeniable in the fashion industry. It’s in the attitude and it’s in the fabrics. Which is why for this outfit post we’re tipping our hats to rockabilly and the pin up girls of yesterday.

We’ve been into gingham lately and wanted to find a variety of looks that we could play with this fabric. So for this outfit we did a 1950s pin up girl approach to it with the red and white gingham flowing dress and oversized belt.

The upper half of the dress has such a great bustier shape that is very flattering to the figure and also reminds us of the bathing suits pin up girls use to wear back in the day. And we thought that the red patent leather belt is the perfect cherry on top to the whole look.

There are so many fashion rules to live. So is it fashion over function or function over fashion? Well, I never quite follow the rules anyways so why not go with both!

There’s no fashion craze that should be too bold for us to try. Which is why the heels over socks look is a trend we’re not shying away from. Apart from the fact that it’s extremely fashion forward and eye catching, the comfort factor alone is convincing enough for us to get behind this movement.

Rocking a pair of socks under your heels can turn a formal heal casual or a casual heal formal depending on how you style it. Give it a try! It’s a great opportunity to work in some great textures, bold colors or prints into your look.
